After the Stone Distillery opened in 1861, G&W’s production capacity jumped from 80,000 to over 2 million gallons per year. David Roberts, Sr. then created a large, red-brick Malt House and Kiln Building to produce the quantities of malt needed. Originally, the two buildings were the same height, as shown in this 1870 painting by William Armstrong.

Une fois le bâtiment Stone Distillery ouvert en 1861, la capacité de production de Gooderham & Worts fit un bond et passa de 80 000 à plus de 2 000 000 de gallons par an. David Roberts Sr fut alors chargé de construire la grande malterie de briques rouges (Malt House) et le bâtiment du four ou touraille (Kiln Building) pour produire les quantités de malt nécessaires. À l’origine, les deux bâtiments avaient la même hauteur comme on peut le constater sur cette peinture de William Armstrong, datée de 1870.
